Gale Franklin Allen
Gale Franklin Allen, age 72, of Carrollton, passed away January 26, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Gale was born June 23, 1937 to Roy F. and Dorothy H. (Johnson) Allen in Brookfield, Missouri. He moved to Carrollton in 1939 and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1955.
On December 20, 1957 he married Margaret Ann Struck who preceded him in death on September 5, 1991.
Gale worked in the grocery business most of his life. He started working for Smith’s Super Market and went on to purchase the store. Gale and Margaret Ann owned and operated Allen’s United Super from 1963 to 1985, at which time he went to work for Piggly Wiggly in Chillicothe, Missouri managing the meat department until his retirement in 2000. Most recently, he worked for Remedies Family Pharmacy.
Gale was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, a 50-year member of Wakanda Lodge #52 AF & AM, past member of the Carrollton Auxiliary Police in the 1960’s and served on a number of community boards including Carroll County Savings and Loan, the Police Board and Fire Board. He was a former Lion’s Club member and little league coach.
Gale is survived by his three children and six grandchildren, Donna and Ronnie Olvera, Carrollton, Missouri, Jeff and Joyce Allen, Kansas City, Missouri, Paige, Landon, and Audrey, and David and Deana Allen, Kearney, Missouri, Connor, Claire, and Celeste. Also surviving Gale is his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Will Kaiser, Grandview, Missouri, two step-grandchildren, Jeremi Olvera, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and Amanda Olvera, Holister, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and his parents, an infant son, Douglas Scott Allen, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2010 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with Reverend Jeremy Payne officiating. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m.
